I waited until now, to share my story. The words spoken by Rev. Al Sharpton as he eulogized Mr. George Floyd’s memorial, help me remove a knee off my neck.
Those words touched my soul, and propelled me out of my safe place. The fear of police retaliation; the fear of public humiliation; are debilitating, seriously frightening, and real.
During my struggle to heal, I created composites that included a prayer candle. On some level, those composites helped me cope with the emotional trauma of being gunfaced. I continue burning a candle in memory of all victims of police misconduct.
My healing continues, so don’t expect me to speak lovingly about law enforcement at this time. I’m still grieving the lost of my civil rights on 12/12/19.
